True Blood season No. 5 finale — love it or hate it? August 26, 2012

Loved parts of it and totally hated other scenes. The worst? That birthing scene. Totally annoying. The best? Bill. What the heck is he now? And who looks like the hero? Eric. The storyline on the HBO show is so different from the books that I can’t even begin to think where they are going to take this in Season No. 6, especially because before that season begins, we’ll already have Charlaine Harris’ ending to her series.

Some links to good recaps/commentary of the finale:

And here is the bonus scene from the finale that was on HBO GO on the iPad app. Note what is said at the end!

You’re never really dead on HBO’s ‘True Blood’ June 10, 2012

You’re never really dead on HBO’s TRUE BLOOD.

And as Season No. 5 of the Sookie Stackhouse saga kicked off, we also find out that vampire love can be oddly fickle.

Here’s a quick recap of the premiere (Spoiler Alert — if you haven’t watched the episode and don’t want to know — stop reading!):

Is Tara dead?
Technically yes. When we last saw her, she was lying on the floor of Sookie’s kitchen with her head blown off. Tara took a bullet fired by Debbie Pelt, who was after Sookie. And yes — Sookie offs Debbie. But in her grief, Sookie strikes a deal with vampire Pam to turn Tara. So what kind of vamp will Tara be? Is there any doubt she won’t be nasty? (Some great scenes with Pam. Ironic that she is Tara’s maker because the two hated each other.) And did anyone catch why Pam was at Sookie’s place and what she said? Did she turn Eric into the Authority?

Best line from the episode?
“I finally have the strength to say, I’m a gay vampire American,”  says The Rev. Steve Newlin, who professes his love to a naked Jason. Ummmm — is Newlin telling the truth? Dunno. But he gets nasty when Jason does not return his affections, and it’s the lovely Jessica who saves Jason by telling Newlin he’s hers and to back off. (By the by — Jessica has become quite the littler party girl. And Hoyt is still mad at Jason for stealing his girl. I was surprised that Jason didn’t tell Hoyt to take a flying leap because Hoyt had dumped Jessica.)

How is the bromance going?
It’s a little odd to see Eric and Bill working together — but what a team. And while Sookie/Eric and Sookie/Bill fans might be sad that it seems like the guys have given up on her so fast, I wouldn’t worry. We know they are all fated to reunite again. We just don’t know how HBO will handle that! What’s really weird? Watching Eric reunite with his sister Nora — a high-ranking member of the Authority. Eric and Nora share the same maker in Godric, so I guess they aren’t siblings in the true since. Otherwise, their relationship is wayyy incestuous.

What happened to Jesus’ body?
We don’t know! Lafayette — who had been possessed by Marnie — killed Jesus and the body was left in Lafayette’s living room. But when a grieving Lafayette returns with Sookie to take care of the body — it’s gone! Poor Lafayette. He killed his lover. His cousin has been turned into a vampire. And he has to help Sookie clean up the body parts from Debbie Pelt’s murder. All in one night. Blech.

Are things heating up between Alcide and Sookie?
Not right now. Alcide offers Sookie his protection (see below) and she has to refuse because she offed his girlfriend Debbie Pelt. She almost blurts it out but Lafayette stops her just in time. Sookie tells Lafayette that she didn’t kill Debbie in self defense. She wanted to kill her — and that makes it all the yuckier for her.

Why is the wolfpack after Sam?
Because they think he killed Marcus. But Sam wants to protect Alcide — who really did kill the evil werewolf — and Luna and her daughter so he confesses to the murder. But Luna finds Alcide, who shows up just as Sam is showing the pack where the body is. And then it gets gross. The pack — including Marcus’ mom — decides to eat Marcus’ body. Ick. Technically, Alcide is now the pack leader. But does he want to lead? And will the group let him?

What’s up with the humans in Bon Temps?
Plenty. Andy and Holly hook up but her sons walk in on them as they sleep naked in bed. And Terry’s old Marine friend — Patrick — is in town. He wants to find out why a series of fires have killed members from the platoon he and Terry served in. But Terry doesn’t want to hear anything about the fires or deaths.

Who dug up Russell Edgington?
Dunno. But someone is taking care of the vamp and Alcide — who helped Bill and Eric bury the sucker — knows he’s back. He warns Sookie and later Eric. We do learn that there are two factions within the Authority: One that wants to exist peacefully with humans and one that does not. So maybe the faction that wants all humans to die is helping Russell get back in the hunt?

What was your favorite scene?

DEAD EVER AFTER.

That’s what Charlaine Harris said at the ROMANTIC TIMES CONVENTION held recently in Chicago.

With just a few weeks left until we get Sookie book No. 12 — DEADLOCKED — it’s kind of weird to already know the name of the 13th and final book in the series. But there’s no stopping Charlaine Harris.  We all want to know if Sookie will get her HEA (Happily Ever After) ending in the final book and now we’ve got this nifty little title to riddle our brains with until it comes out next year.

To read more about what Charlaine and other authors said at the RT convention CLICK HERE.

(And what do you think of the title of book No. 13?!)

Charlaine Harris has posted Chapter 2 from DEADLOCKED — No. 12 in the Sookie series and due out in May. Some of my Sookie friends over at www.sookiestackhouse.com have wondered why she posted Chapter 2 and not Chapter 1. (Did we miss something?) To read the excerpt (think fae, fae, fae), go to Charlaine’s website HERE. Interesting chapter, especially toward the end. Let me know what you think.

I’m a little behind on Sookie news but Charlaine Harris says book 12 is done, and we have a working title!!! From her blog:

As of last night, Sookie 12, now known as DEADLOCKED, is DONE!
Of course, that’s a relative term. I’ll have to do more work on it as it’s read by various editors and my agent.
But 90% of the work on it is over, thank goodness.

And here’s what she said on her Facebook page:

What a relief to send DEADLOCKED into my editor(s). Now I can rest easy for a little while, until I get the revisions back. A writer’s dream — to have your editor tell you there’s not a single change necessary . . .

And just before finishing she posted this on her blog:

I didn’t have a chance to read a lot this past week, because I was working hard to finish DEADLOCKED, Sookie 12. I’m always experimenting with different ways to organize my work so I can keep track of what’s going on during the course of the action in the book. This time, I think I made real progress.

The day I send a book to my editor (and my agent, and my continuity maven, and to Dana and Toni) is just about better than Christmas. Of course, the minute it’s gone, I think of five things I should have done differently, but I’ll have chances to make changes. All of those people will have suggestions, and I’ll have days of slogging through the manuscript again trying to decide which changes to adopt and which ones to let fall by the wayside. I’ll have plot holes to fill, factual errors to correct, and clumsy sentences to rewrite. And I know all this when I hit “send.” But there’s always the delightful feeling of accomplishment, the happiness of having done my best.

For a couple of weeks I can maintain the illusion that this time I haven’t made any mistakes: that I haven’t miscounted and had the action take place on Sunday (when Merlotte’s is closed) or put Sookie’s birthday on the wrong day, or made any of the million errors possible when a series has gone on for so many years with such a large cast. (I have no idea how George R.R. Martin is doing it.)

I’ll probably get five or six sets of comments simultaneously, and I’ll want to tear my hair out. But that’s part of the job, too. You’re never really through with a book until you hold the printed copy in your hand. (Even then, sometimes, you have to make corrections for the next edition, if you’re lucky enough to have another edition.)

And in an even earlier post, she gives us some direction on what is going to happen in book no. 12:

While I know where I want to be at the end of each book, I don’t always know how I’m getting there. Sometimes I surprise myself. Last night, Sookie got kidnapped, and I’m going to see how that shakes out. A character I thought was dead is probably alive, and I’m real happy for him. Then again, if the work doesn’t go so well today, he may be dead again. This is the fun (and the panic) of being a writer. Every day brings decisions, and I have the power of life and death and procreation over all these people I’ve invented.

OK — so who is the character who was dead and who is now alive? It’s a him …. Any guesses?

OK — I think these TRUE BLOOD previews are pretty fun. June 26th can’t arrive fast enough! (Love it in this first one when Sookie says, “Alcide, stop making that noise.”)

And here’s the second one, where Sookie says, “Oh great, now I have to deal with witches?”

Charlaine Harris: Only 2 more Sookie books February 17, 2011

The end is near for our beloved Sookie Stackhouse.  Charlaine Harris, author of the popular book series, told the LA Times earlier this month:

“Truthfully, the next two books will probably be the last two books in the series. I still love Sookie, but I’m beginning to want to write something else, and Sookie’s kind of taken over my life. I was able to write other things for the first few years I was involved in Sookie, but then after the start of the television show she took over so much of my time because of my increased publicity obligations that it’s been very hard to write other things, and I really need to do that.”

I must say I think it’s time for the series to wrap up. I love the characters and even the HBO series — TRUE BLOOD — but I have a hard time tearing through each new book release. Book No. 11 in the series  — DEAD RECKONING — is due out May 3.

You can read the entire LATimes interview HERE. (Are you ready for Sookie’s story to end?  And who do you think she’ll wind up with?)

From True-Blood.net

Can’t believe that the finale for season No. 3  of True Blood is finally here. It’s titled “Evil is Going on,” and it was written by Alan Ball, so you know it’s gonna be insane! (The finale is on Sunday night — Sept. 12 — on HBO at 9 p.m. If you’re on the West Coast, you can pick up the East Coast feed at 6 p.m.)

I collected a few snippets  of small spoilers from a couple of sites. You can click on the link near each blurb to read the original source.

Burning Up At Fangtasia – True-Blood.Net

The photos are  all from the Fangtasia set (aka Alex’s Bar in Long Beach) and are part of the scenes involving Eric and Russell out in the sun. The presence of Anna’s stunt double suggests that Sookie will be involved in a fight scene at some point. Skarsgard’s stunt double was also on set (not pictured), and those tubes strapped to his back and arms, used for the prop blood, sure make it look like Eric is going to be very bloody before the end of the episode. Pam Fights to Save Eric & More in True Blood Season 3 Finale — OnTheFlix.com

Pam fights to save Eric & more in True Blood season 3 finale episode. Kristin Bauer who plays Pam told MTV’s Hollywood Crush  that Pam will be in a fight that’s both physical and emotional in an effort to save her maker Eric. She also said that there will be some twists and turns to occur. She stated, “For Pam, the next two episodes, she’s trying, she’s in an emotional battle and a physical battle trying to save Eric. It’s quite something. There are some twists and turns that happen. It’s really clever.” CLICK HERE to see the video interview with Bauer and read the article.

True Blood Serves Up a Shocking Finale — TV Guide

Who uses a sock in ‘True Blood’ sex scenes — Bill or Eric? August 18, 2010

From a series of stories at The Huffington Post:

Image from The Huffington Post website

In the story accompanying the nude and gruesome ‘True Blood’ cover of ‘Rolling Stone,’ the show’s stars talk about how they approach being nude on set.

Alexander Skarsgard goes sockless. “I don’t want a sock around it, that feels ridiculous,” he told the magazine. “If we’re naked in the scene, then I’m naked. I’ve always been that way.”

Stephen Moyer is more modest and opts for a sock but just out of regard for others. “I’ve got nothing to hide,” he said. “I just think it might be embarrassing for the crew.”

His fiancee, Anna Paquin, wears a “patch” on her privates.

OK — I just thought this was funny. But now I have to go out and buy this cover and check out the stories for myself! When I first heard talk of socks, I thought it was about the male cast stuffing them down their pants ….
