UPDATE: Friday (Jan. 14)

On KMM’s blog: The retailer who posted the two chapters — Shelfari — didn’t do it on purpose, KMM says. It was an honest mistake. “As frustrated as it makes me, you should know it was an oversight,” she says on her blog. Also she says she’s not hiding a third chapter from us. She only saw two posted, but has had folks tell her as many as five were up. She only has a two chapter PDF so she can’t give her fans more right now.

Late Wednesday, Karen Marie Moning learned that a major retailer broke an embargo and posted the first two chapters of SHADOWFEVER online.

On her blog — CLICK HERE to get to her entry on this and to her link to the chapters — she explains that the first two chapters contain a “MAJOR SPOILER” and a lot of information.  So for her fans — who KMM doesn’t want to get hit by all of this — she’s made the chapters available as a download for people who chose to read it.

More from KMM:

This isn’t how I wanted things to go. I had something special planned for you pre-release but the unauthorized posting blew it for us.  Since it has been leaked, I’m giving you the choice.  I’ve posted the PDF of the first two chapters at my website for those of you who want spoilers. IT WILL TELL YOU WHO THE BEAST WAS.

OK — I wish there had not been a leak. And now KMM has posted. To read or not to read …

2. Laurie T - January 13, 2011

Even though I’ve been waiting for this book for what seems like a long time, I don’t want to read the first two chapters. I want the entire story so I’ll wait until I have my pre-ordered copy in my hand:)

Diana McCabe - January 13, 2011

I am trying not to read but it’s hard ….. and I’m going to NOLA. Part of me is saying I can get the jump on the first 2 chapters and then relax into rest of the book. Sigh. This is why I hate having to make these choices. But — no spoilers will be posted on this blog!

3. Krissy - January 13, 2011

I read it and now I wish I hadn’t because I have to wait until the book comes out to read the rest and I’m dying here. Why couldn’t I just wait? I’m so impatient, darn it.

Diana McCabe - January 14, 2011

hee hee — I did the same thing. I tried to wait and couldn’t and now have so many more questions. That’s just me though! I barge right ahead!!!! But will have the book in my hot little hands soon!

4. Dot S. - January 14, 2011

Do you think this is just another marketing ploy? I have my suspisions.

Diana McCabe - January 14, 2011

No — I thought the same thing at first but then she noted that it was an accidental goof from Shelfari …. I need to update my post with that. LPD left a comment with same info as well.

OK — so I head off to NOLA for the book event manana! Yay! Yes — will post pics and stuff here.

5. LPD - January 14, 2011

Not a marketing ploy. The leak came via Shelfari on their page where you could buy the Kindle ebook version. Online bookstores often offer a chance to browse the first few pages of a book. They inadvertently put the first couple of chapters up for SF, just like they do with other new books. I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s crazy-making waiting for these books, especially when you know that a select few got ARC’s directly from KMM and that the people attending the launch in NOLA will get the book a day before everyone else. I read the chapters posted and now feel like I can wait for the rest more easily. Indeed, I thought that the answer we get in that first chapter should have been where DrF ended, rather than leaving us with that abrupt, and to my mind, artificial ending. There isn’t that much given away in those first couple of chapters, so I still have TONS of questions that I want answers for. But at least now I can settle down and wait a little more patiently for the next few days to pass.

Thanks for the comment on Shelfari. I should update the post and meant to last nite. It was a mistake and Shelfari regrets it. And KMM thinks it was an honest mistake as well.
