KMM releases new Darkfever cover … but which is your fave? (The ones w/ Barrons?) July 27, 2010

Since I’m not in the book publishing biz, I don’t understand this book cover stuff. Why some covers are changed and others are not. For example, I love the original Sookie Stackhouse covers. So cool, but now they all look like the HBO series. Makes since because publisher probably trying to pull in TV viewers who haven’t read the series.

But why are other covers changed? Here’s the original cover for the first book in the  Karen Marie Moning Fever series. I love this series and guess I will always like the original cover for DARKFEVER. But now there’s a new cover. What do you think? I’ve also included a few other variations.

Original Darkfever cover.

Latest Darkfever cover -- just released.

Darkfever cover released in UK.

German cover for Darkfever.

French cover for Darkfever

Spanish cover for Darkfever.

I tried to find the Japanese cover. There’s also a Norwegian cover. But what’s your fave? Wondering if I should simply start reading the books over and posting on here — could be a weekly thing on sundays? Countdown until her final book. But we could pick apart all of our theories — to no end — because KMM will have something we won’t have thot about.

I prefer the original cover. I, too, do not understand this wave of new covers on books. Just the other day I received an email from Amazon about one of the books in the Women of the Underworld series coming out. In the email they also listed a few of the other books in the series, and wouldn’t you know, but a couple of them had new covers. What is worse, is that they were reminiscent of Twilight – black, with an object in red and white – ugh! It annoys me that they are equating that series with grossly inferior books in hopes that they might attract some Twilight fans.

Maybe I can find someone in the book biz to talk about book covers. I understand why they change ’em overseas etc. But some don’t make sense.

re graphic novels — I am waiting for Diana Gabaldon’s graphic novel to come out this fall. Based on Outlander but told from another character’s perspective. So we shall see how that turns out. Who is the audience for these — readers in their 20s? Maybe something else I should check out. (have you bought any?)

I like graphic novels, but I have not bought one based on any of the paranormal books I like. I paged through the first one based on LKH’s Guilty Pleasures, but it looked rather freaky weird to me – nothing that I would want to spend my money on.

I love the original paperback cover with the blue. It matches all of the others in the series. What I don’t understand is why they always switch the covers in mid-series. The last book in this series, Shadowfever is the kick off for the new design and I hate it. I’ve loved the last few Faefever with its distinctive purple and Dreamfever with the yellow/orange was awesome. Now this one will throw it all out of whack.
