Looking for a series? Dot from New York — a regular contributor to this blog — recommends the GUARDIANS OF THE NIGHT SERIES by Jenna Black. (Thanks for the pick Dot!):
Last year I read SECRETS IN THE SHADOWS (book 2) by Jenna Black and really liked it and promised myself to read more of her GUARDIANS OF THE NIGHT SERIES. Well, I got sidetracked and kind of forgot about that promise to myself until recently when I saw her SHADOWS ON THE SOUL (book 3) at the bookstore and it all came back to me in a rush. I brought it home and plopped into my favorite reading chair and actually only budged once to get a diet Pepsi.
Each book follows either a Guardian or a Killer and their love interest. But what is different about Black’s books is the gritty, seedy, violent nature of the vampires she portrays. These are not your sparkly, huggy vampires, not at all. And, yet, they show redeeming natures. Their redemption is usually triggered by the women who love them. Ah-h-h, saving the bad boys.
I liked that these vampires were not all good or all bad. That they had issues that sometimes tried their soulless immortality. Black keeps the story moving with side plots, action and romance as her vampires fight their thirst for vengeance and succumb to their denied desire for love. The action is brutal and the sex is steamy; satisfying read on all fronts. This is an accomplished author. Her prose illuminates a scene and puts the reader in the midst of the story.
