Jessica Barksdale Inclan writes about finding your other half — the perfect soulmate — in her science-fiction/paranormal romance trilogy that includes INTIMATE BEINGS, BEING WITH HIM and the last in the series THE BEAUTIFUL BEING, which comes out Sept. 29. Once again — two people must find each other. the_beautiful_being.preview

The Divining Wand, a Web site devoted to authors and books, has a nice interview with Jessica. Here’s a snippet. CLICK HERE to read the rest. Also — the author is offering three sets of the trilogy as a giveaway on The Divining Wand. To enter, leave a comment on their Web site between now and Wednesday at 7 p.m. EDT. The Divining Wand will announce the winners in Thursday’s post. CLICK HERE to get to the Jessica post and scroll to the bottom of the post to enter.

Now — onto the interview!

Q: How would you describe your paranormal romance in 10 words?
A: The world will end if they don’t find each other.

Q: What is your backstory maxim for the trilogy?
A: You may think you are alone, but your soulmate is there. Just wait.

Q: How would you describe perfect happiness for your characters?
A: Finding peace by finding each other. And peace is happiness, pure and simple.

Q: What are their (the characters) greatest fear?
A: Never finding one another–living life alone and in a perpetual state of longing and quest.

Q: What are your most overused words or phrases?
A: One novel, I had a character “biting her lip” and “chewing her cheek” over and over again. Frankly, it is a miracle she had a face left after the story was over.

Is it November yet? Hope it gets here soon.. We’ll get the third book in Alyson Noel’s‘ Immortals Series SHADOWLAND on 2shadowland-NewwClosedEye-722460Nov. 17!!!!! That’s earlier than the previous release dates! Read an excerpt from it HERE. (I think she had the first 3 chapters up but her publisher had her take them down . But you know Alyson will make sure it’s all done right!)

If you follow her blog or facebook feed, this might be old news but she’s planning six books in total for the Immortal series, including SHADOWLAND on 11.17.09. DARK FLAME in 2010, and books 5 & 6 in 2010/ii, she writes on her fantastic blog.

She says she’s getting ready to start the Riley series now, and it will about her life in the afterlife.

Also, Alyson did a really cool interview CLICK HERE. The guy asks writers the same 7 questions. Pretty cool. (I am doomed as all of the writers he’s interviewed think great writers are born ……sigh.)

SOUL MAGIC release date moved up!!!! September 18, 2009

First, she scored big with BLOOD MAGIC, about Darcy MacAlister who suddenly learns she’s a witch. And not just any witch.soul She’s the key to breaking the curse that has plagued witches and the men who hunt them. For if a hunter kills an innocent witch by mistake, the price is no less than a piece of his soul. Axel Locke, gorgeous leader of the Wing Slayer Hunters, has sworn never to shed the blood of the earth witches who have resisted the temptation of demonic power. But when his sister is cursed by a demon witch, he discovers that Darcy MacAlister may hold the cure. And we though were gonna have to wait until December’s release of the next book in the series SOUL MAGIC. But noooooo! Author Jennifer Lyon says:  “Yep, SOUL MAGIC has been moved up. It had something to do with B&N slotting. It’s being released Oct 27th, which makes it a November book.”

SOUL MAGIC will be Carla and Sutton’s story. In SOUL MAGIC, Carla discovers

that her dead twin sister’s soul is trapped in the knife of the rogue that murdered her. Carla must free Keri’s soul to go onto Summerland before Keri’s soul dies off forever. Carla believes Sutton can help her locate the knife. Sutton is living with the sure knowledge that Carla is the witch who will cause him to lose control of the curse and go rogue. (Rogue witch hunters lose their souls.) What makes SOUL MAGIC really stand out from BLOOD MAGIC is that while Carla and Sutton are bound by blood, passion and magic, they dare not give into their deadly attraction for reasons revealed in the book. These two have a very different story from Darcy and Axel. It’s a twist on the adage, is love really enough?

Jen got this early review from the Romantic Times for SOUL MAGIC and they gave it a FOUR HOT STAR review!!!

Here’s a sneak peek…

Lyon is back for the second installment of her promising Magic series as she digs deeper into the mystery of soul mirrors. By setting her romantic protagonists on opposite sides of a curse, she ensures sacrifices will be needed. Readers are in for a roller-coaster ride of danger and emotional drama!
We can’t wait. In the meantime, check out her super fun blog. (And what is with that tool belt?)

What’s up with Diana Gabaldon’s ‘Outlander’ movie? September 15, 2009

UPDATED Jan. 5, 2010:

I emailed Diana Gabaldon today and her assistant — Janice — once again sent back a speedy reply to the question “Is there anything new on the movie front?” Here’s what she said:

The only “new” news is that production company has renewed the option and asked to include the possibility of a mini-series type production.  If  we ever hear more, I’m sure it will be announced.  Thanks for writing.

Last we’d heard — back in October/November 2008 — the movie rights for the popular novel had been picked up by Essential outlander3Pictures, and the screenplay would be written by Randall Wallace, who also wrote the screenplays for BRAVEHEART and PEARL HARBOR.

A visitor to this blog asked if we’d heard anything new since then. I hadn’t so I emailed OUTLANDER author Diana Gabaldon, and one of her assistants sent this reply:

“The recession has affected this much as it has affected many other things.  The option has been renewed but other than that we have no news.”

I’d keep watching her Web site for updates. Last year, Diana wrote what she knew about the movie on her site. Here’s a little bit of what she said on November  2008 (To read the whole post, which is interesting because she gives her opinion about possible actors who could play Jamie and Claire — even though she makes it clear she has no say in the casting — CLICK HERE .) Until then — we have her great books! Her latest in the saga of Jamie and Claire — AN ECHO IN THE BONE — comes out Sept. 22!!!!

***Excerpt from her November 2008 post below***

I’ve been getting a number of enquiries, since press releases have started appearing about the movie production of Outlander—excited folk asking “Is it true?” “When?” and (I hope you’ll pardon a brief roll of the eyes here), “Who would you cast?” (I couldn’t begin to guess how many thousands of times I’ve been asked that over the last twenty years.)

It’s very early days as yet, but I’ll answer what I can.

Yes, Essential Productions —is developing Outlander as a “major motion picture.” (What that means is that they want to make a two-to-two-and-a-half hour feature film.)

And yes, Randall Wallace (the talented gentleman who wrote both Braveheart and Pearl Harbor—hey, ancient Scots and—WWII, how about that?) is writing the script.

No, I have absolutely nothing to say about the casting of the movie. The production people do occasionally ask me what I think of this or that person, but this is simple politeness on their part.

No, I have no control whatever regarding the script.

No, I really don’t want to have anything personal to do with the development of the movie.

Book pick: ‘Vampires in America’ series fast-paced, suspenseful urban fantasy September 13, 2009

Looking for a cool new vamp series? Dot in NY calls the  VAMPIRES IN AMERICA series by D.B. Reynolds a fantastic, Raphaelurban fantasy romance. Other readers have said if you liked the early Anita Blake character, you’ll love the heroine in this series. Dot has sent us a look at the first two books in the series, which came out just this year. (If you have a book you’d like to recommend, email me at dianachiyo@gmail.com.) A big thanks to Dot, who reads a lot of vampire novels and will be sending us her book picks!!!
The first book in the series is RAPHAEL and features a strong heroine and a bad-boy vampire. Cynthia Leighton is a human private investigator, former cop who takes on a job for West Coast Vampire Lord Raphael.  That job is to find the kidnapped female vampire that resided on Raphael’s estate.  The one female for whom he would give his life. Cyn and Raphael become involved in a web of Russian mobsters and betrayal that only escalates the growing desire they have for each other. Raphael is the badest bad boy, violent, dangerous and irresistible. This is a well written, fast-paced, sexy, action-filled romance that leaves the heroine and the reader breathless and wanting more.
Reynolds followed  RAPHAEL with JABRIL. This time PI Cynthia Leighton is taking on a job in Texas for evil Vampire Lord jabril Jabril Karim.  She wants this job to distance herself from her obsessive feelings for West Coast Vampire Lord Raphael.  Jabril has hired her just to seduce her away from Raphael.  But Cyn is having none of it and proceeds to free his enslaved vampire ward and find her sister.  Jabril has hired a male PI to trace all three women when they disappear to the West Coast, which throws Cyn back in the arms of Raphael and into more danger. As with the series book 1, RAPHAEL, this is fast paced with plenty of action and the most delicious, heart stopping declaration of love from a vampire. JABRIL leaves the reader wanting more Cyn and Raphael and more from author D.B. Reynolds.

If you haven’t had a chance to read L.J. Smith’s THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, you can watch the TV show on the CW this week

on Thursday at 8 p.m. But, for speedy readers, you can easily get through the first story, THE AWAKENING, pretty quickly. And there are lots of places offering free downloads of the books. (CLICK HERE for HarperTeen’s offering or HERE, where fanpop.com is offering free downloads.) The books come in pairs — so the first book contains THE AWAKENING and THE STRUGGLE, which introduce you to Elena, the most popular high school girl in Fells Church, VA., who is torn between two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon. Yes — another love triangle with vamps. The books are fun reads but these are really YA novels. (Kind of a great way to relive those traumatic high school years if you want to remember some of the angst and petty infighting soap opera drama of your younger years!)

I’ve heard the TV series is completely different from the books, but that’s not much of a shock, given what Alan Ball and HBO have done with the Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse seriesTRUE BLOOD. (Season 2’s finale is this Sunday on HBO!)

Author L.J. Smith asks folks to be patient with the series, especially the first episode. She’s posted this on her Web site:

“May I make a plea for everybody to try to be patient (especially with the pilot episode)? The Twilight Zone feeling rapidly diminishes after that. Ian Somerhalder is being recognized as a superior villain; and I feel sure that under those brown curls Elena’s scheming mind is simply waiting for an opportunity to emerge. Really, guys, the series people have been nice to me lately and I get to hear about (and I hope get, to give to you) freebie things like posters and “sunscream” and “Fang” dental floss, all part–along with a blood drive (“Starve a Vampire: Donate Blood!) in New York. …  I’ve waited this long to speak out, and my verdict is: give it a chance.”

Lots of cool info out there on the Web for The Vampire Diaries:

The CW has a great site for the show HERE.

Also, check out the official book site HERE.

Finally,  my vampire fan buddies over at SookieStackhouse.com, will be discussing the CW’s version of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on their weekly Last Bite Podcast. (They’re scheduled to have a special live podcast after the season 2 finale of TRUE BLOOD. Go to their Web site HERE during the week for more details.)

Next Sookie book: “Dead in the Family” summary on Amazon U.K. September 2, 2009

Posted by Diana McCabe in Authors, News.

Well — we still have to wait until May 2010 for the next Sookie book but here’s the book summary as posted on Amazon U.K.:Charlaine_Harris

Sookie Stackhouse has finally settled into a relationship with the Viking vampire Eric, and her errant brother Jason seems to have his life in order, too. But all the other people in Sookie’s life – Eric himself, her former lover Bill, her friend and boss Sam – are having family problems. Eric’s maker shows up with Eric’s ‘brother’ in tow, the ailing Bill can only be healed by a blood sibling, and Sam’s brother’s marriage is about to take place . . . or will it? The furor raised by the coming out of the two-natured has yet to settle; some people are just not ready to sit down to dinner with a man who turns into a dog. And Sookie herself is still recovering from her last ordeal. She’s definitely improving, physically and mentally, but she’s always going to have some dark moments now. The werewolves tell her that there have been strange and ominous passers-by in the Stackhouse woods; now Sookie is about to come face-to-face with one of her more distant relatives . . .

Click HERE to read Charlaine’s Sept. 1 blog entry on finishing the book.
