Kresley Cole releases the latest tale in her Immortals After Dark series on Feb. 15. Finally — in DREAMS OF A DARK WARRIOR we will hear the story of Regin the Radiant! To keep us going until then, Cole gives her readers a very generous excerpt. CLICK HERE to start reading. If you’re like me — and love the IAD series — this will only make you want to read more! But it’s a pretty hefty excerpt, so I was happy to see it! If you want to know how Regin’s story starts out, here is the product description listed on Amazon.com:
HE VOWED HE’D COME FOR HER . . .
Murdered before he could wed Regin the Radiant, warlord Aidan the Fierce seeks his beloved through eternity, reborn again and again into new identities, yet with no memory of his past lives.
SHE AWAITS HIS RETURN . . .
When Regin encounters Declan Chase, a brutal Celtic soldier, she recognizes her proud warlord reincarnated. But Declan takes her captive, intending retribution against all immortals—unaware that he belongs to their world.
TO SATE A DESIRE MORE POWERFUL THAN DEATH . . .
Yet every reincarnation comes with a price, for Aidan is doomed to die when he remembers his past. To save herself from Declan’s torments, will Regin rekindle memories of the passion they once shared—even if it means once again losing the only man she could ever love?
Book pick: Devoured by Darkness whets appetite for next book in series December 12, 2010

Tane is a Charon, a rogue vampire hunter, who this time is tracking a half-human, half-demon creature to bring her before the Commission for elimination. Seems now in the Guardian world, half-breeds are considered undesirable because some simply can’t control their powers. And that’s Laylah, the Jinn on the run who has a secret that Tane is just dying to figure out before he turns her in.
That’s the main storyline behind DEVOURED BY DARKNESS, book No. 7 in Alexandra Ivy’s Guardian of Eternity series. And with this book, she starts to develop another world and immerse us in the plot to bring back the evil Dark Lord, who will wreck havoc on the planet and demon world.
What I like about Ivy’s books in this series is the saucy and steamy and sometimes goofy dialogue between her characters. And this one has its moments. (Yes — little Levat the gargoyle is back!) But this story gets weighed down a bit with the premise of resurrecting the Dark Lord and who would want to bring him back/who loses if he is alive. It’s confusing. It takes a bit of wading through it all but you finally figure out that Laylah is protecting a baby (not hers) who some say is a vessel for the Evil Lord and some say isn’t. Of course, she thinks the baby is innocent and goes out of her way to protect her charge. And Tane — who was so menacing and freaking scary in Book 6 and Book 5 of the series — is totally enticed by Laylah. They battle and then wind up falling for each other etc. He gets caught up in her cause to save the baby as well. But because of this Dark Lord plot and the introduction of other characters — Laylah’s evil aunt who is a vampire and her sidekick bad-boy mage — the story isn’t as clean or easy to follow as her other books. Brief scenes with Caleb and Cassandra are not really developed and pop up in odd parts of the story. So, you lose a bit of the tension between Tane and Laylah and their story, which Ivy usually captures so well in her other relationships in the series.
That said — it’s always nice when the Anasso Styx shows up. And I can’t wait to see what will happen between hunter Jaelyn and the Sylvermist Ariyal. Talk about a love-hate relationship. Not even sure what that’s about, but it made for a most intriguing ending. And what happened to Laylah’s mother? And this whole Dark Lord baby thing isn’t resolved either. Looks like she’ll tie up those story lines in BOUND BY DARKNESS.
If you’re into this series, you’ll want to pick up this one. It’s not my favorite, but it did get me thinking about the next installment!
